How do I get him to talk to me?

My boyfriend (he's my first) and I have been together for almost (5days away) 3 months and have been getting very close physically. At first I was really enthusiastic but recently i'm finding it harder to get really into what we've been doing, how do i tell him that and how do I overcome that? Furthermore he's really cautious with me and I want him to be more in control however if I straight out talk to him about it I think he'll freak a little bit, how do i do it subtly. And sorry to overload the questions but also when were together he's really quiet and i'd really like to know what he's thinking, how do i get him to tell me what's going on in his head? Ta! :)
