What do people have against private people?

It is normal for people to try and take an interest in other peoples lives. It is considered rude by many to not ask about the other person. This is how relationships are built. If you don't want to, that's fine, but people probably aren't going to want to hang out with you. Why are you so cautious? How is telling someone that you are in a relationship going to hurt you in any way?
